In a stackable house, only the front facade is visible. This assignment focused on the relatively limited design space of 3.5 x 3 meters. By utilizing the design space of the adjacent units, a linking appearance brings life to the block. Left and right versions were designed to enhance an interlocking pattern spanning the whole block.
Holland Composites - HoCo for friends - has been pioneering composite living units for decades, with, around Y2K, their hugely successful SpaceBox as a great example of the possibilities. Looking at that success, a new project was launched to explore this market in the 2020's.
Using HoCo's unique and intrinsically fire retardant Duplicor® bio-based/recycled sandwich formula, QSpace complies to all applicable building code for both temporary and permanent occupancy.
Early 2024, the QSpace store web page was launched, attracting clients from private persons to housing associations. A first project of 144 units has been finished in IJsselmonde, Rotterdam in 2025 for Stichting Verre Bergen. This project provides much needed independent housing for the large group of involuntary couch surfing youth in the city.
